Parenting Counselling
Parents have enormous power to bring about change in their children. Understanding the context of a child’s world together with the principles of child psychology and human development can lead to specific, focused parenting interventions that often have a dramatic impact on the child and the entire family.
How It Works
The Parenting Centre offers a three phase model for the provision of parenting counselling:
- Phase One: Understanding the Situation.
Dr. Jacobs will meet with the parent(s) to obtain a comprehensive understanding of the current concerns as well as the family dynamics and current parenting strategies. Depending on the situation, Dr. Jacobs may meet separately with the child(ren) either at the same session or at a subsequent session. - Phase Two: Proposing Change.
Dr. Jacobs will provide a detailed analysis of the child’s behaviour and family dynamics, and will propose very specific parenting interventions. - Phase Three: Review and Follow Up.
Dr. Jacobs will meet with the family to review how the interventions are working and make any needed revisions accordingly.
Overall, it is anticipated that the initial phase of parenting counselling will range from 1-4 sessions. Dr. Jacobs will, of course, continue to be available to the family as needed.
Cost
The regular cost of a session is $200 (50-80 minutes) and parents can receive reimbursement from Medicare and private insurance with appropriate referrals.
